To flash or install a custom ROM on Android is very simple and easy. So if you wish to leave your stock ROM and use a custom ROM, you are fully equipped to follow this tutorial to make it possible. With Custom ROM, you can improve your Android battery life, better performance, update to the latest Android versions, customize and even modify things like the color of your notification light, the force of your vibration, the saturation of the colors on your screen and much more.
Stock ROM is the ROM (read only memory) that's comes with your phone and Custom ROM is the one being created for use with many features. So before you continue, kindly backup your data using Google drive or clockworkmod or any other backup applications you know in order to recover back your datas once is lost.
How to flash or install a new ROM to your Android phone
So after backing up your data, kindly download a Custom ROM of your phone which means download a Custom ROM that corresponds with your phone model. So once you have found the ROM you want to download which is in .ZIP format and do not extract it. Then download GApps which is Google Apps corresponding to your Android version so that means if your Android is 4.4.2 you will download GApps package of 4.4.2 so that's all, then save your GApps and Custom ROM you downloaded to your SD Card, internal memory storage or flash drive.
So you have successfully back up your data, downloaded a custom ROM, downloaded a GApps and save it successfully. Then let's move on by booting into recovery mode and flash or install the Custom ROM in your Android for your Android to have a better new looks and performance.
STEP 1: BOOT INTO RECOVERY MODE
There are many ways to boot into recovery mode for different phones so if you want to boot into recovery mode on your device kindly Hold Volume Down + Power for 5 seconds. Then your phone will enter recovery mode immediately and it will be like this below;

STEP 2: FLASH OR INSTALL ROM
Then in TWRP which is the left screenshot kindly click on INSTALL and on the right screenshot kindly click on INSTALL ZIP FROM SD CARD. As shown below;
Then locate your saved ROM and select the file then proceed to flash the .ZIP which is the ROM. Then APPLY UPDATE in the TWRP and ClockworkMod. As shown below;
Just apply update in TWRP and ClockworkMod
Then after that, you can now flash the files in TWRP and ClockworkMod. As shown below;
Then after flashing the file (ROM) in TWRP and ClockworkMod you can now blackout and clear the cache in TWRP and ClockworkMod. As shown below;
Then after wiping in TWRP and ClockworkMod, you have successfully flashed a custom ROM into your Android device and then enjoy all the new features on it.
This is the best way to flash a custom ROM into your Android phone but there are many different ways specific to each device. There are still softwares that you can use to flash a ROM from your computer especially when you’re flashing the stock ROM back onto your device.
For Nexus they have to use Nexus Root Toolkit, for Samsung they use ODIN and for Sony they use Flash tool.
